Renu Chopra reveals Shah Rukh Khan produced Akshaye Khanna starrer Ittefaq without reading script: 'Said it was 'Haraam' to charge interest'

Renu Chopra recently shared how generous Shah Rukh Khan was when supporting her son Abhay Chopra’s film Ittefaq (2017). Without even reading the script, SRK backed the project, which starred Akshaye Khanna, Sidharth Malhotra, and Sonakshi Sinha. She also revealed that he refused to charge interest on the finances, calling it ‘haraam.’
In a chat with Pinkvilla, Renu Chopra shared how many people supported her, including Shah Rukh Khan. She recalled that when they decided to make Ittefaq, SRK was very respectful. Despite his busy schedule, he insisted on meeting her instead of the other way around. However, after waiting three weeks, she finally decided to go herself.

She further shared that Shah Rukh Khan welcomed them with warmth and respect. When she told him she couldn’t invest, he immediately agreed to support the film. Since Ittefaq was her younger son’s debut, SRK didn’t even read the script, saying he trusts the filmmaker, not just the project.

Renu also highlighted Shah Rukh Khan’s generosity, revealing that even after the film’s release, the financial split remained equal. When it came to interest on the investment, SRK refused to take it, calling it unacceptable for him. She expressed gratitude for meeting such kind-hearted people in the industry.
Ittefaq was released in November 2017 and performed well at the box office. The film also received positive reviews from critics for its gripping storyline and performances.
