Remo D’Souza reveals Abhishek Bachchan’s 'Be Happy' has no connection to Salman Khan’s father-daughter movie

Abhishek Bachchan is all set for the release of ‘Be Happy’, which is touted to be an emotional drama about the bond between a father and his daughter. Directed by Remo D’Souza, the film is gearing up for its digital premiere. Ahead of the release, Remo addressed speculations about similarities between Be Happy and a previously planned Salman Khan project.
In a conversation with PTI, the director revealed that he had discussed a father-daughter script with Salman in 2017, tentatively titled Dancing Dad. However, he asserted that ‘Be Happy’, starring Abhishek Bachchan and Inayat Verma, is a completely different story.

The choreographer-turned-filmmaker further expressed uncertainty about how Dancing Dad’s working title became public. He reiterated that Salman still has that script, stating, “There is no similarity between this script and that script.” He also shared that he has worked on multiple father-daughter narratives and that Be Happy took shape during the COVID-19 lockdown.
While Remo is widely recognised for his commercial films, he revealed that most of his non-mainstream projects draw inspiration from real-life events. Speaking about the protagonist, he mentioned that Shiv’s character carries thematic elements from his own father’s personality. Despite its dance-oriented visuals, he stressed that Be Happy is not centred around dance but rather a layered story that posed creative challenges during development.
Remo hinted at an exciting new project with veteran actor Nassar. He confirmed that the movie is not related to dance but is something different. Additionally, he confirmed that fans of the ‘ABCD’ franchise can expect a third instalment.
‘Be Happy’ is penned by Remo D’Souza, Tushar Hiranandani, Kanishka Singh Deo, and Chirag Garg. The movie also features Nora Fatehi, Nassar, Johnny Lever, and Harleen Sethi in key roles. It will be out on Prime Video on March 14.
