Rashmika Mandanna’s ‘I am from Hyderabad’ remark sparks online debate

Rashmika Mandanna’s recent remark about being from Hyderabad has sparked an online debate. While some believe she made the statement to win over the Telugu audience, others argue that it is a fair assertion since she currently resides in the city. The discussion gained momentum after a clip from the pre-release event of ‘Chhaava’ in Hyderabad surfaced online, where Rashmika mentioned her connection to the city, drawing mixed reactions from fans and netizens. Born in Virajpet, Karnataka, Rashmika Mandanna hails from the Kodava community in Coorg. She has always embraced her roots, frequently donning traditional Kodava sarees and sharing her love for the culture. However, at the ‘Chhaava event’, she stated, “Because I’m from Hyderabad, and I have come alone, and today I hope I am a part of all of your family,” which was met with applause from the audience. Despite the positive reception at the event, her comment soon went viral, with critics accusing her of altering her identity to appeal to Telugu fans.
On the other hand, many have defended Rashmika Mandanna’s statement, pointing out that she has been living in Hyderabad for quite some time due to her work commitments in Telugu cinema. Given her extensive career in the industry and her residence in the city, supporters argue that she has every right to feel a sense of belonging to Hyderabad. They also highlight that actors often move across regions, making multiple cities their home over time.
Rashmika Mandanna made her acting debut with the Kannada film ‘Kirik Party‘ in 2016 and gained recognition with Chamak. She entered Telugu cinema with ‘Chalo’ in 2018 and became a star with hits like ‘Geetha Govindam‘, Dear Comrade, and ‘Sarileru Neekevvaru’. Her role in ‘Pushpa: The Rise‘ catapulted her to nationwide fame, and she continues to make waves in multiple industries, including Bollywood, with films like ‘Mission Majnu’, ‘Animal’, and ‘Chhaava’.
