Rajinikanth pays heartfelt tribute to Jayalalithaa on her 74th birth anniversary; Says, 'I was supposed to act in a film with Jayalalithaa'

On the occasion of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s 74th birth anniversary, Superstar Rajinikanth visited her residence, Veda Nilayam, in Chennai’s Poes Garden to pay his respects. He was warmly received by her niece Deepa before proceeding to garland Jayalalithaa’s portrait as a mark of tribute. The visit, along with images and videos of Rajinikanth’s homage, has since gone viral on social media, drawing widespread attention from fans and political circles alike. Meanwhile, AIADMK members and supporters across Tamil Nadu marked the occasion by honoring Jayalalithaa’s memory with floral tributes and special events.
Following his visit, Rajinikanth interacted with the media and reflected on his past visits to Jayalalithaa’s residence. He recalled that his first visit was in 1977 when they were supposed to act together in a film. As part of the casting process, Jayalalithaa had requested to meet him in person, which led to his first interaction with her at Veda Nilayam. His second visit was years later when he personally invited her to the inauguration of Raghavendra Kalyana Mandapam, a marriage hall built by him. The third time, he came to extend a formal invitation to her for his daughter’s wedding, continuing their long-standing professional and personal rapport.
Rajinikanth expressed deep admiration for Jayalalithaa, emphasizing her lasting impact on Tamil Nadu’s political landscape and his personal memories of her. He described her as a powerful leader and a remarkable personality whose contributions to the state remain unparalleled. His visit this time, however, held a different sentiment, as it was the first time he had come to pay tribute rather than extend an invitation or meet her personally. He expressed that her legacy and memories would always remain in his heart.
As Rajinikanth bid farewell to Veda Nilayam, he left with a sense of nostalgia, reflecting on the many significant moments he had shared with Jayalalithaa over the years. The iconic residence stood as a reminder of her towering presence in Tamil Nadu’s political and cultural landscape. Walking through its halls, Rajinikanth seemed lost in thought, reminiscing about their long-standing camaraderie, mutual respect, and the deep conversations they once shared.
Before departing, he paused for a moment, taking in the weight of the history surrounding him. With heartfelt sincerity, he offered his final words: “May her name and legacy live on.” His statement carried an emotional depth, acknowledging her indelible mark on the state and its people. As he stepped away, his expression reflected both admiration and a quiet sadness, marking the end of an era.
