In a decision that could affect the fans’ experience of viewing the upcoming FIFA World Cup, Qatari officials are all set to reverse their policy on selling alcoholic beer at stadiums during the tournament, according to a New York Times report. According to the report, an unnamed official, who is aware of the change of plans, has informed that Qatari officials have decided that the only drink that will be on sale to fans at stadiums during the World Cup will be non-alcoholic.
The sale of alcohol during the tournament has been a major point of discussion between FIFA and the host country. The availability of alcohol during the event has been a big concern for travelling fans as drinking in public areas is not permitted in Qatar.
The abrupt decision to not sell beer at the stadiums will come as a big shock not just for the fans but also for FIFA as they have a multi-million dollar promotion deal in place with Budweiser, the American beer giant.
