The youngster, son of a real estate developer, was drunk when the car he was driving hit two people, killing them.

The Pune Police Police have arrested the manager and owners of two pubs in the city after a Porsche car being driven by a 17-year-old boy allegedly hit and killed two people in Kalyani Nagar area. Sources said that these two pubs and restaurants are under the radar for breaking the laws and serving liquor to minors. Those arrested are Cosie Hotel owner Pralhad Bhutada, manager Sachin Katkar and BLAK manager Sandeep Sangle.

Sources said that Pune Municipal Corporation and Pune Police will start taking action against bars, pubs and restaurants which operate beyond permissible time limit.

The youngster, son of a real estate developer, was drunk at the time of the accident, the police claimed. Sources said that the accused had in his statement mentioned that his father was aware that he had gone partying and drinking and he had the car along. Sources said that the police will question the father, who has been arrested.

A group of friends were returning on motorbikes around 3.15 am on Sunday after a party when a speeding luxury car hit one of the motorcycles at Kalyani Nagar junction. The two riders — Anis Awadhiya and Ashwini Costa — died of their injuries.

The Juvenile Justice Board’s had granted the youngster bail on the same day while asking him to write an essay on road accidents. The decision has drawn criticism.

Pune police commissioner Amitesh Kumar said, “Police have taken the incident seriously, and have taken action under IPC section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder). We moved two applications in this case. We also took action under sections 75 (punishment for cruelty to child) and 77 (penalty for giving intoxicating liquor or narcotic drug or psychotropic substance to a child) of Juvenile Justice Act against the father of the accused.”

“Any misconception of soft peddling by the police is not correct. Any one found supporting the accused shall be dealt with severe punishment. Have faith in us. Guilty shall be punished irrespective of his economic strata,” Pune police further said.
