PM Modi in U.S. LIVE Updates: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday kicked off his three-day US visit by participating in the Quad summit in Wilmington, Delaware, where he stated that the grouping is not against anyone, but for a rules-based international order and respect for sovereignty.
“Free, open, inclusive, and prosperous Indo-Pacific is our priority,” Modi said in his opening remarks, in a veiled reference to China, at the summit hosted by President Joe Biden. The Quad meeting was also attended by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, with whom Modi later held bilateral meetings. On the sidelines of the Quad Leaders’ Summit in Wilmington, Modi participated in the Quad Cancer Moonshot event hosted by Biden.
Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister deeply appreciated this thoughtful initiative of President Biden aimed at preventing, detecting, and treating cervical cancer. As India’s contribution to the Cancer Moonshot initiative, PM Modi also announced a grant of US $7.5 million for cancer testing, screening, and diagnostics in the Indo-Pacific region.
On the margins of the Quad, Biden hosted PM Modi at his residence in Greenville, where the two leaders discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest and exchanged views on global and regional issues, including the Indo-Pacific region and beyond. “They expressed confidence in the strength and continuing resilience of the relationship and their belief in its significance for all areas of human endeavor between the two countries,” the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a statement.
Earlier on Saturday, PM Modi received a rousing welcome in the US state of Philadelphia. “The Indian community has distinguished itself in the USA, making a positive impact across diverse sectors. It’s always a delight to interact with them,” the Prime Minister said in a post on X.
