PM did no favour to farmers by signing Kisan Nidhi file: Congress | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Congress attacked PM Narendra Modi for “making a great show” of signing his first file on granting of the 17th installment of the PM Kisan Nidhi funds. The main opposition party claimed that Modi did no special favour to farmers by releasing the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi fund, which was due to them a month ago but was delayed because of the Model Code of Conduct.
Congress general secretary in-charge of communications, Jairam Ramesh said in a post on X shared a cronology to say, “the 16th installment of PM Kisan Nidhi was due in January 2024, but was delayed by a month for the PM’s electoral calculus. The 17th installment was due in April/May 2024, but was delayed by the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct.”
In this backdrop, Ramesh adds that the PM has done “nobody a great favour by signing this file.” “These are legitimate entitlements due to farmers according to his govt’s own policy. He has made a habit of converting routine administrative decisions into some great bonanza that he is bestowing upon the people.”
Ramesh said if the PM was genuinely concerned about farmer welfare, these were the five things he would do: provide legal status to MSP according to the Swaminathan Commission’s formula; farm loan waiver; guaranteed insurance payment straight to the bank account within 30 days of crop loss; farmers consulted to set up a new import-export policy and no more GST on essential inputs for farming.
