Pahalgam terror attack: UK PM Starmer speaks to PM Modi, condemns 'heinous attack on Indian soil'

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer spoke with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday and strongly condemned the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people, calling it a “heinous attack on Indian soil.”
“PM @Keir_Starmer of UK called PM @narendramodi and conveyed his sincere condolences on the innocent lives lost in the heinous terror attack on Indian soil. He strongly condemned the barbaric terror attack and expressed that UK stands with the people of India in this hour of tragedy,” sharing the details of the call, Ministry of External Affairs’ spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal posted on X.
According to a 10 Downing Street statement, “The Prime Minister (Starmer) began by saying he was horrified by the devastating terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, which saw the tragic loss of 26 innocent lives.”

“He expressed his deep condolences on behalf of the British people to all those affected, their loved ones, and the people of India. The leaders agreed to stay in touch,” it added.
Conservative Party MP Bob Blackman raised the Pahalgam incident in the House of Commons on Thursday. As Chair of the Backbench Business Committee, he requested UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy to make a parliamentary statement.
“On Tuesday, we saw the systematic murder of Hindu pilgrims in Pahalgam in India. The sad reality is that the terrorist group thought to be responsible for this, Lashkar-e-Taiba, is a Pakistani organisation that deliberately targets innocent people in Jammu and Kashmir,” Blackman told parliament, according to PTI.
“We must give our reassurance and support to the Government of India in ensuring that they apprehend these terrorists and those responsible for supporting them are also brought to justice,” he added.
Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof also expressed his sympathies to Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the April 22 incident in Pahalgam.
PM Schoof denounced the “cowardly act,” rejected all forms of terrorism and showed solidarity with India.
PM Modi acknowledged the Netherlands’ support and highlighted India’s dedication to working with the Netherlands to strengthen international counter-terrorism efforts.
