Operation Sindoor: India and Pakistan agree to continue confidence-building measures, reduce alertness levels

NEW DELHI: India has decided to continue confidence-building measures along the border to reduce alertness levels, the Indian Army said on Thursday, following talks between the Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan.“Further to the understanding between the two DGMOs on 10th of May 2025, it has been decided to continue the confidence building measures so as to reduce the alertness level,” an Indian Army official said as reported by ANI.Pakistan foreign minister Ishaq Dar told the Senate that Pakistan’s DGMO Maj Gen Kashif Abdullah and his counterpart Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai spoke over a hotline on Wednesday afternoon. According to Dar, the ceasefire has now been extended until May 18.Geo News quoted Dar as saying, “During the DGMOs’ conversation (on May 10), the ceasefire was extended until May 12. When the DGMOs spoke again on May 12, the ceasefire was extended until May 14. Further talks on May 14 led to the ceasefire being extended until May 18.”Dar added that the two DGMOs are expected to speak again on May 18.The statements comes after four days of intense drone and missile exchanges earlier this month, which began after the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 people. India responded with precision strikes under Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting terror infrastructure across the border.
