Not for us to act as Kashmir mediator: UK

Reacting to recent debates on Jammu and Kashmir in the British House of Commons, UK parliamentary under-secretary and Labour MP Hamish Falconer has said that “it is not for the UK to prescribe a solution or act as a mediator.” Representing the British govt, he said: “The (UK) govt’s position is that it is for India and Pakistan to find a lasting political resolution for Kashmir, taking into account the wishes of Kashmiri people… We recognise that there are human rights concerns in both India-administered Kashmir and Pakistan-administered Kashmir.”
In less than two weeks, British MPs, led by PoK-origin Labour MP Tahir Alihave, held two debates in the House of Commons on Jammu and Kashmir, which were critical of India “for “multiple human rights violations in J&K”.
