Nitesh wins bronze in Greco Roman at Asian Wrestling Championship 2025; India end category with two medals

Indian wrestlers maintained their impressive performance on day two of the Senior Asian Wrestling Championship 2025 in Amman, Jordan. Nitesh secured India’s second bronze medal in the Greco-Roman category, joining Sunil Kumar who won bronze in the men’s 87kg division.
Nitesh defeated Amanberdi Agamammedov of Turkmenistan with a commanding 9-0 score in the bronze medal match. He won the bout through Victory by Supression (VSU).

The 22-year-old started his tournament journey by defeating Kazakhstan’s Ilyas Guchigov 9-0. He later lost to Iranian wrestler Mohammadhadi Abdollah Saravi in the semifinals before claiming the bronze medal against Agamammedov.
“With this victory, the Indian Greco-Roman team has now won two bronze medals in the championship, marking a strong performance on the international stage,” the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) President, Sanjay Singh, informed in a message from Amman on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, Sunil Kumar earned a bronze medal in the men’s 87kg category by defeating Chinese wrestler Jiaxin Huang 5-1 via Victory by Points. In other matches, Nitin lost to North Korea’s Yu Choi Ro 9-0 in the men’s 55kg qualification round, while Sagar Thakran was defeated by Jordan’s Amro Abed Alfattah Jamal Sadeh in the men’s 77kg quarterfinals.
Women’s wrestling competition begins Thursday featuring five weight categories. India’s representatives include World Championship medallist Antim Panghal, along with Neha, Muskan, Monika, Mansi Lathar, Jyoti Berwal, and Reetika.
