    On July 19, the CBI detained a first-year MBBS student from Ranchi’s Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) for allegedly assisting in the solving of the stolen question paper in the NEET-UG paper leak 2024. Surbhi Kumari, a first-year student, was arrested following two days of rigorous questioning by the CBI. Kumari was reportedly the fifth member of the’solver module’ that arrived in Hazaribagh on the morning of May 5, the day of the NEET-UG test, to solve the paper stolen by Pankaj Kumar, officials claimed.

    NEET-UG 2024 Supreme Court Hearing Live Updates: Highlights From Last Session

    — According to Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, 254 students are opposing the retest.

    — The SC bench has sought clarification from NTA on students who changed exam centre and are in the top 108,000.

    — Out of the 15,094 new registrations, around 12000 students have failed the exam while only 44 will get admissions, the NTA counsel, and the SG told the CJI.

    — SC examined the Hazaribagh case. A trunk containing question papers was found travelling on an e-rickshaw on May 3 in Hazaribagh and it was received by the principal of the school. The CBI has arrested the principal. “There is a systemic failure in conducting the exam by NTA. Failure is multi-dimensional,” he said.

    — The idea of somebody leaking the paper is not to make a national charade of the NEET exam. “People were doing it for money. Therefore anybody who is making money out of it won’t circulate it mass scale,” the CJI had observed.

    A CBI investigation into the NEET paper leak case has revealed that the scope of malpractice may be considerably smaller than previously thought, with fewer than 150 students involved, a top agency official told CNN-News18. “It is only in the Patna-Hazaribagh case that there is any evidence of the question papers being stolen. Here too, only one centre seems to have been affected. Country-wide, the total number of students affected could be less than 150… even within this number, the aspirants who got to know of the question paper ahead of the exam could be even fewer,” they said.
