
India’s first gold medalist in athletics – Neeraj Chopra – returns to action with the arrival of the Doha Diamond League. Set to commence of Friday, the Qatar Sports Club in Doha will be the venue for the competition as Neeraj faces some of the most formidable talents in the sport. The 27-year-old will be looking to get off to a flying start in a year in which he will also be defending his world championship title.Neeraj’s competition in Doha features the likes of Anderson Peters, who is a two-time World champion and bronze medalist at the 2024 Olympics – the year Neeraj missed out on gold to Pakistani athlete Arshad Nadeem. Incidentally, Jena, Chopra, Peters, Yego and Dean were supposed to compete in the the Neeraj Chopra Classic, which has now been put off.

Besides winning the event, the elusive 90m mark will loom large over Neeraj’s head as he takes to the all-familiar arena in Doha. Neeraj already has a 2023 Diamond League win in Doha to his name alongside a second place finish in 2024.
