National committee to promote natural farming to be formed soon: Agriculture minister Shivraj Chouhan

KURUKSHETRA: Union agriculture minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced that a national-level committee will soon be formed to promote natural farming across India. This committee will work towards raising awareness and providing training to farmers on adopting natural farming practices. Chouhan emphasized that if farmers embrace natural farming correctly, they will not only increase their income but also preserve soil fertility. Additionally, citizens will benefit from chemical-free vegetables, grains, and fruits, he said.
The minister made this announcement while visiting natural farming initiatives in Kaithala village in Kurukshetra district, where he observed farming techniques under the guidance of Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat. Before this visit, he toured Gurukul in Kurukshetra, where he examined native breed cow shelters, biogas plants and hostel facilities. Acharya Devvrat provided insights into the Gurukul’s progress and achievements.
During his visit to Kaithala’s natural farming farm, Chouhan was surprised by the flourishing crops of wheat, sugarcane, vegetables, and fruit-bearing plants. He also personally observed the traditional jaggery-making process and even tasted fresh jaggery.
Praising Acharya Devvrat’s efforts, Chouhan noted that modern agriculture’s excessive use of chemicals and fertilizers has depleted soil fertility and harmed beneficial insects, leading to various health issues. He warned that if such practices continue, future generations will suffer.
He urged farmers to adopt natural farming gradually, starting with one or two acres, and dispelled the myth that it reduces yield. Instead, he highlighted that proper natural farming techniques enhance both productivity and crop quality.
Chouhan also stressed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership is driving the natural farming mission forward, with Acharya Devvrat playing a crucial role. He encouraged farmers to visit Kaithala’s natural farming model farm for inspiration.
The Union Minister concluded by stating that he is eager to meet with farmers in Chandigarh to discuss agricultural concerns in a harmonious and constructive manner.
