England all-rounder Nat Sciver-Brunt has been named the new captain of the national women’s cricket team, succeeding Heather Knight, who was sacked last month following a disastrous 16-0 Ashes whitewash in Australia.
Sciver-Brunt, 32, had been the frontrunner for the role after serving as Knight’s long-time deputy. Her appointment was confirmed on Tuesday by England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) officials, who also announced Charlotte Edwards as the new head coach, replacing the ousted Jon Lewis.

“I’m really proud to take on the role of captain of the England women’s team and it’s an honour to have been asked by Charlotte, someone I’ve always looked up to,” Sciver-Brunt said. “Ever since I made my England debut back in 2013, all I’ve wanted to do is help the team in every way I can.”
Who’s that IPL player?
Clare Connor, managing director of England women’s cricket, praised the new skipper’s leadership potential: “She’s thoughtful, resilient and driven by getting the best out of herself and everyone around her.”
Currently ranked third in the ICC ODI batting charts, Sciver-Brunt boasts a stellar average of 46 in both Tests and ODIs, and has taken 181 international wickets across formats.
Her first assignment as captain begins May 21, when England host West Indies for three T20Is and three ODIs, followed by a multi-format series against India.
