Around 15,000 police personnel besides senior officials have been deployed for security in Mumbai during the ten-day Ganesh festival which will start from Saturday.
Ahead of the ten-day Ganesh festival starting Saturday, the Mumbai Traffic Police have issued a traffic advisory to ensure smooth flow during the entire festival, including the idol immersion processions on major dates.
The guidelines have been issued to handle the expected increase in vehicle and pedestrian traffic during the festival, resulting in a safer and smoother experience for all Mumbai residents.
Meanwhile, Mumbai’s civic body has asked people to be on guard against stingray and jellyfish bites during Ganesh festival idol immersions. Harmful fish that can bite Ganesh devotees during immersion have been found in large numbers in ‘trial netting’ conducted by Maharashtra government’s Fisheries Department, a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) release said.
Traffic snarls at Mumbai-Pune, Mumbai-Goa Highway
On the eve of Ganesh Chaturthi, the Mumbai-Pune Highway witnessed a crawling vehicle flow due to an increase in the number of commuters travelling to Goa. Since, the Mumbai-Goa Highway is still under construction, and not in a suitable condition, more and more people are choosing the Mumbai-Pune Highway to reach their destination. The additional vehicles enroute to Goa have caused a great inconvenience to people going back to their native places, such as Sangli, Karad, for Ganesh Chaturthi celebration.
Over 15000 police personnel deployed across metropolitan
Around 15,000 police personnel besides senior officials have been deployed for security in Mumbai during the ten-day Ganesh festival which will start from Saturday.
As many as 32 Deputy Commissioners of Police, 45 Assistant Commissioners, 2,435 officials, 12,420 constables, home guards and personnel of the State Reserve Police Force, Rapid Action Force and Riot Control Unit will be on the streets, an official said to PTI.
Last Services of Mumbai Metro Extended
Operators of all three Metro lines in the city have decided to extend the time of the last service for the Ganesh festival.
Mumbai has three operational metro corridors, namely, Ghatkopar-Andheri-Versova Metro Line-1, DN Nagar, Andheri-Dahisar East Metro Line-2A and Gundavali, Andheri-Dahisar East Metro Line-7.
The last service for Ghatkopar from Versova will depart at 12.10 am instead of 11.20 pm, and that from Ghatkopar to Versova at 12.40 am instead of 11.45 pm. Last metro services on Metro Line 2A and Metro Line 7, will be extended by half an hour during the last six days of the festival. The last services on both lines will depart at 11.30 pm instead of 11 pm from September 11 to 17.
Coastal road to be opened during festival
The Mumbai traffic police has urged the BMC to keep the Mumbai coastal road open 24×7 during the 10-day Ganesh festival from September 7-17 in order to ease the traffic woes. The coastal road runs from Marine Drive upto Worli. The connector starting from Worli upto the Bandra Worli sea link is yet to be commissioned.
