Mumbai Indians beat Delhi Capitals to clinch second WPL title

NEW DELHI: Mumbai Indians secured their second Women’s Premier League (WPL) title with a thrilling 8-run victory over Delhi Capitals in the final at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday. Defending 150, Mumbai Indians bowlers, led by Nat Sciver-Brunt (3/30), restricted Delhi Capitals to 141 for 9 for a tense win.
Batting first, Mumbai Indians posted a competitive total of 149 for 7 in their 20 overs. The innings began with an early setback as Hayley Matthews was dismissed for just 3 runs by Marizanne Kapp. Yastika Bhatia followed soon after, falling for 8 runs to Kapp’s sharp bowling.
However, Nat Sciver-Brunt steadied the innings with a solid 30 off 28 balls, anchoring the middle overs.
Captain Harmanpreet Kaur played a crucial knock, scoring 66 off 44 balls with a strike rate of 150. Her innings included nine boundaries and two sixes, which gave Mumbai Indians the much-needed momentum.

Contributions from Amanjot Kaur, who scored an unbeaten 14 off 7 balls, and Sanskriti Gupta’s quick 8 off 5 balls, helped Mumbai reach 149.
Marizanne Kapp was the standout bowler for Delhi Capitals, claiming 2 for 11 in her four overs, while Nallapureddy Charani also picked up two crucial wickets.
In response, Delhi Capitals struggled to chase down the target.
Their innings got off to a shaky start as captain Meg Lanning was dismissed for 13 by Nat Sciver-Brunt.
Shafali Verma’s poor form continued as she was trapped LBW by Shabnim Ismail for 4 runs.
Jess Jonassen and Jemimah Rodrigues tried to rebuild the innings, with Rodrigues scoring a quick 30 off 21 balls.
However, Delhi’s middle-order collapse saw Annabel Sutherland dismissed for 2 and Sarah Bryce run out for 5.
Marizanne Kapp fought hard with a valiant 40 off 26 balls, but her efforts were in vain as wickets continued to fall at regular intervals.
Niki Prasad’s 25 not out off 23 balls provided some resistance, but Delhi fell short, finishing at 141 for 9 in 20 overs.
Nat Sciver-Brunt was the pick of the bowlers for Mumbai, taking 3 for 30. Amelia Kerr chipped in with two wickets.
