Keeping in line with the initiative of the Government of India to ensure quality healthcare services to each and every person in the country, all state governments make equal efforts to make this dream a reality. The Mukhyamantri Amrutum Yojana launched by the government of Gujarat is an example in this regard. The scheme was launched in the state with the initial intent to provide healthcare coverage to the BPL or Below Poverty Line segment in Gujarat. However, the scheme was later modified to include lower middle-class households too.

What is Mukhyamantri Amrutum Yojana?

Mukyamantri Amrutum or MA Yojana is a state-run health insurance scheme designed to provide complete coverage to a person for all of their healthcare needs. This includes everything from diagnosis of the condition, diagnostic tests, hospitalization expenses, as well as post-hospitalization care. The scheme was launched by the Gujarat government on September 4, 2012. Over the last 10 years, the scheme has proved to be a blessing in disguise for the financially weaker sections of the state population.

How Does the Mukhyamantri Amrutum Yojana Work?

In order to avail health insurance coverage benefits under the scheme, the policyholder is required to have an MAA card, presenting which they can seek coverage as a beneficiary under the policy. To enroll for the MA Amrutam card, the policyholder is required to be physically present at the enrollment kiosk. Alternatively, the MAA card can also be downloaded online on certain mobile apps.

Now, while seeking health insurance coverage under the scheme during a medical emergency, the beneficiary is required to submit the MAA card in Gujarati. Upon presenting the card, the beneficiary is entitled to receive health insurance benefits as part of the Yojana.

How to Enroll for a MAA Card?

Here are the steps to apply for the Amrutam health card:

  1. You would need to be physically present at the enrollment center for getting enrolled for the MAA card.
  2. Fill out the MA Vatsalya Card application form with all the required information.
  3. Once enrolled into the Yojana, you may visit the kiosk again to check the status of your Mukhyamantri Amrutum Vatsalya card.

Note: In case you wish to enroll for the MA Amrutam card online, apply by following the simple steps detailed below.

  • To obtain the MAA card online, apply on the official portal of MA Gujarat (
  • You may also log on to the website to know more details about the MA Yojana.
  • As for the MA Amrutam card validity check online, it can be done by simply logging in to the portal with your login credentials.

How to Check Eligibility for MA Card?

Only certain sections of the state population are eligible to apply for the MAA card. To know whether or not you can apply for the MA Scheme, check out the criteria listed below:

  • If your family is listed in the Below Poverty Line or BPL category list of the state government of Gujarat
  • If the annual income of your family is up to Rs. 400,000
  • If you or your family members fall under the Class 3 & 4 employees on fixed payment, as appointed by the state government
  • If you are a senior citizen of a family whose total annual income is up to Rs. 600,000
  • If you are an Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) employee

If you belong to any of the above categories, you are eligible to apply for the Mukhyamantri Amrutam Yojana of the Gujarat government.

  • Goenka Hospital, Gandhinagar
  • Surat Municipal Medical College
  • Hanuman Hospital, Bhavnagar
  • Virok Super Specialty Hospital, Vadodara

Coverage of MA Yojana – What is Included?

To avail the health insurance benefit under the scheme, it is important to know the various diseases and health conditions that are provided coverage for. Here is a list of some of the diseases and treatment procedures covered under the Yojana for your reference:

  • Cardiological procedures
  • General surgical procedures
  • Knee replacement surgery
  • Hip replacement surgery
  • Neonatal treatment packages
  • Ophthalmological procedures
  • Organ transplants
  • Pediatric surgical procedures
  • Surgical Oncology treatment

Exclusions of the MA Yojana – What is Not Included

While the Mukhyamatri Amrutum Yojana covers a wide range of health treatments and procedures as listed above, there are certain areas that do not fall in the coverage area of the scheme.

For instance, some non-emergency medical procedures may not be covered under the scheme. Also, cosmetic procedures such as plastic surgery for enhancement of aesthetics do not find mention in the coverage area of the Yojana.
