The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has conducted a survey on encroachment of land in the Yamuna Khadar area. The survey report released on Friday revealed that in recent years, two-thirds of the land in Yamuna Khadar area has been encroached.

On March 27, the Delhi High Court had directed the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to use the latest technologies like ‘satellite imagery’ and ‘drone photography’ to find out the current status of land in Zone ‘O’.

According to a senior DDA official, the Delhi Development Authority found in its survey that out of a total of 9,700 hectares of land in ‘Zone O’ of the Yamuna’s khadar area, 7,362.56 hectares have been encroached.

On July 8, the High Court had directed the Vice Chairman of DDA to remove all encroachments and illegal constructions on the banks of the Yamuna river, the river bed and the drains flowing into the river.

According to the High Court order, the DDA will have to coordinate with all the concerned agencies to remove encroachment from the ‘khadar’ area. The Delhi Police can provide necessary security personnel to maintain law and order during the anti-encroachment drive.

To stop illegal construction and encroachment on government land in Delhi and to resolve land related complaints, DDA, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and Survey of India signed a Memorandum of Understanding for drone survey on Friday. This would solve the problem of uncertainty in the status of land belonging to different government agencies and such land can be saved from encroachment.
