Mirzapur farmers join Independence Day celebrations at Red Fort
Their products have garnered substantial demand, not only in India but also internationally, with successful stalls in Dubai and Jakarta
Thirty-eight farmers from Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, have been invited to participate in the Independence Day flag hoisting ceremony at Delhi’s Red Fort. This significant invitation comes as a recognition of their contributions to the agricultural sector, particularly in the production of value-added products from coarse grains.
Dheeraj Kumar Maurya, CEO of City Block Farmer Producer Company Limited (FPO), and his team have been at the forefront of this initiative. Maurya’s FPO, initially founded with just 10 farmers, now supports over 1300 members engaged in producing biscuits and snacks from millets, maize, and other coarse grains.
Their products have garnered substantial demand, not only in India but also internationally, with successful stalls in Dubai and Jakarta. FPO CEO Dheeraj Kumar Maurya said, “The demand for food items prepared from coarse grains is high. Our FPOs have got an opportunity to participate in the Independence Day program organized at Delhi Red Fort. As farmers, we are very happy to get the invitation.”
An associate with the FPO, Sandhya Maurya, said, “Our aim is to prepare different food items from coarse grains, millet and maize etc. So far, biscuits and snacks are being made from coarse grains.”
“The demand for it is high. The government is encouraging the hard work of our people. We are very happy that we have got an opportunity to join the flag hoisting program organized at the Red Fort in Delhi,” Maurya added.
The 38 farmers, 19 men and 19 women, traveled by Brahmaputra Express to attend the prestigious event. Their participation highlights the growing recognition of their efforts and the government’s support for promoting coarse grain-based food products.
As they join the flag hoisting ceremony at the Red Fort, their achievement marks a proud moment for both the local agricultural community and the nation.
