Suryakumar Yadav cheekily checked Abhishek Sharma’s pocket for a note during the Mumbai Indians’ match against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Wankhede Stadium.
In his previous outing against Punjab Kings, Abhishek Sharma hammered 141 runs off 55 balls. Upon reaching his century, he took out a note from his pocket that read: “This one is for the Orange Army.”
Abhishek Sharma scored 40 off 28 balls, hitting seven boundaries, on a day when Sunrisers Hyderabad’s batters struggled.
The eventful first over saw both SRH openers receive reprieves off Deepak Chahar.
Abhishek Sharma went down the wicket, swinging his bat on the first delivery. The ball shaped away slightly, taking an edge, but Will Jacks failed to hold onto the catch.
On the fourth delivery, Travis Head hit the ball straight to Karn Sharma at midwicket, who failed to catch the low ball as it fell just short of him.
Abhishek Sharma appeared to gain momentum when he hit three fours off Chahar in the fifth over, but the momentum was short-lived.
While Karn Sharma failed to judge the catch early on, substitute fielder Raj Angad Bawa did not when Abhishek Sharma hit a ball off Hardik Pandya in the eighth over towards sweeper cover.
Sunrisers Hyderabad found late momentum with the bat to post 162 for 5, courtesy of Aniket Verma, who hit a couple of sixes, and Pat Cummins, who hit one, taking vital 22 runs off Pandya.
With the surface at the Wankhede Stadium providing grip and turn for the spinners and slower deliveries proving effective for the pace bowlers, it will be a tricky chase.
Brief Scores
SRH: 162 for 5 in 20 overs (Abhishek Sharma 40; Will Jacks 2/14)
