MI vs DC Live Score, IPL 2025: Mumbai Indians vs Delhi Capitals, rain likely to spoil playoff battle at Wankhede

Word Count: 715 | Estimated Reading Time: 4 minutes

MI vs DC Live Score, IPL 2025: The race for the final IPL 2025 playoff spot has reached a nail-biting crescendo, and it couldn’t have scripted a more dramatic scenario. With Gujarat Titans, Punjab Kings, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru already through, all eyes now turn to Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals in a virtual knockout at the Wankhede Stadium on May 21.

The equation is simple for Mumbai. Win this game, and they’re in — shutting the door on mathematical probabilities. Anything less, and the playoff picture becomes murkier. Delhi, on the other hand, must win to stay alive. But for them, the timing couldn’t have been worse. Their recent form has dipped drastically, with just two wins in their last eight matches. The absence of Mitchell Starc continues to hurt, and their bowling, especially in the death overs, has lacked bite.

Rain, however, threatens to play spoilsport. With an 85% chance of precipitation, there’s a genuine concern about match completion. Mumbai, already bruised by weather interference against Gujarat, would hope history doesn’t repeat itself.

KL Rahul remains Delhi’s beacon of hope. With a towering average of over 63 at Wankhede and no dismissals by Deepak Chahar, he’s the man to watch. Yet, the Capitals have struggled with stability, especially at the top. Seven different opening combinations have produced the lowest average among all teams this season.

Mumbai look comparatively settled. Suryakumar Yadav and Rohit Sharma have consistently delivered, except against Axar Patel, who holds a favourable match-up. Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult provide the edge in bowling.

From a scheduling perspective, Mumbai might hold a slight edge. Their final league game comes after Delhi wrap up theirs, allowing better clarity on what’s needed. Yet, coach Mahela Jayawardene has made it clear: “It’s in our control… a great position to be in.”

For Delhi, the pressure is immense. Bowling coach Munaf Patel acknowledged it bluntly: “There is no other option but to win.”

Historically, MI have dominated the rivalry, winning 20 of 36 encounters, and hold a 7-3 lead at home. Interestingly, their current playoff push began after beating DC in the reverse fixture.

As the curtain rises on this must-win battle, the stakes, the emotions, and the unpredictability, with a dose of rain drama, promise an unforgettable evening at the Wankhede.
