MHA’s I4C joins hands with DMRC to spread awareness about cybercrimes | India News – Times of India

TOI News Desk

NEW DELHI: In a bid to curb increasing cybercrime in India, the government has collaborated with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in an awareness campaign after establishing Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) in New Delhi.
The surge in cybercrimes has become a matter of concern as India increases its digital presence, ranging from financial fraud to data breaches and identity theft, targeting individuals, businesses, and government agencies.Increasing public awareness about cybercrime is important in countering its growing threat.
Joining hands with DMRC, a mass-awareness drive was run at ten prominent metro stations which are, Rajiv Chowk, Kashmere Gate, Lajpat Nagar, Kalkaji, Botanical Garden, Azadpur, Vishwavidyalaya, Rajouri Garden, Kirti Nagar, and Janakpuri West.
The standees at the metro stations provide alerts about the latest modus operandi of cybercriminals, including cybercriminals disguising themselves as girls to carry out phishing attacks on unsuspecting victims. This particular standee has been placed at Vishwavidyalaya and Kalkaji Metro Stations, which have an average footfall of 35,000 to 40,000 per day.
They also make the commuters aware about the cybercrime helpline number 1930 and the cybercrime reporting portal www.cybercrime.gov.in.

Nishant Kumar, director at I4C, said, “Growing cybercrimes in the country and innovative modus operandi of cybercriminals are major concern. As awareness is the first line of defence, we want to make the citizens aware of the latest modus operandi of cybercriminals and also of the helpline number and portal of MHA. To connect with the masses and grab their attention, we thought of some quirky design which can not only pull the attention of commuters but also educate them. This led us to this design and I hope that it’s working.”
