Sunrisers Hyderabad secured an impressive eight-wicket victory against Punjab Kings in a high-scoring IPL match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Saturday. Abhishek Sharma’s spectacular 141 off 55 balls helped Hyderabad chase down 246 runs, marking the second-highest successful chase in IPL history.
The match saw Punjab Kings post a formidable total of 245 for six, powered by Shreyas Iyer’s explosive 82 off 36 deliveries. However, their efforts were overshadowed by Sharma’s masterclass, which included 10 sixes and 14 fours in his maiden IPL century.

A notable incident occurred in the fifth over of Sunrisers’ chase when Glenn Maxwell disagreed with a wide ball decision. Maxwell called for a DRS review, bypassing team captain Iyer, which led to visible frustration from the Punjab skipper.
“Umpire, Pehle merese pucho na (ask me first),” Iyer seemed to say to the umpire, who had accepted Maxwell’s review request without consulting the captain, contrary to standard protocol.
Abhishek Sharma’s innings of 141 now stands as the third-highest individual score in IPL history, following Chris Gayle’s unbeaten 175 for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2013 and Brendon McCullum’s unbeaten 158 for Kolkata Knight Riders in 2008.
The victory proved crucial for Sunrisers Hyderabad as it ended their four-match losing streak. The team successfully chased down the target, reaching 247-2 in 18.3 overs.

This win marked Hyderabad’s second victory of the season, their first coming against Rajasthan Royals in their opening game last month. The result has positioned Sunrisers Hyderabad at eighth place in the points table. Meanwhile, Punjab Kings suffered their second loss in five games, and now occupy sixth position in the standings.
