In a quiet and intimate ceremony held in Berlin, TMC MP and outspoken parliamentarian Mahua Moitra tied the knot with senior advocate and fellow MP Pinaki Misra. Eschewing fanfare and media attention, the couple opted for an understated yet deeply elegant celebration, with the bride’s saree taking centre stage for its craftsmanship and cultural richness.Mahua Moitra wore a custom Parigul saree, a soft pale pink Varanasi brocade woven with real zari and silk, designed with timeless grace in mind. The weave featured an intricate jaal of flowers, highlighted by rani pink meenakari detailing that added depth and colour to the subtle base. Crafted using the elaborate Kadwa technique, each motif was individually woven, resulting in a jangla-style pattern with no loose threads visible at the back – a true mark of artisanal precision.

The ceremony reportedly took place on May 30, though Moitra has not made any public statement, choosing to keep the moment private. Known for her fiery speeches in Parliament and her earlier high-flying banking career with JP Morgan in London and New York, Moitra’s personal life has rarely been in the spotlight. She was previously married to Danish financier Lars Brorson. This Berlin wedding, with its quiet elegance and textile-led fashion choices, is a reminder that modern weddings don’t need grandeur to be memorable. Sometimes, it’s a beautifully woven saree and a shared moment of simplicity that says it all.
