A 21-year-old man has been arrested in Mumbai for befriending a 13-year-old girl on Instagram and raping her twice in different locations in two states.

Police said the man took her to Gujarat later and raped her again. When the girl returned home after a few days, she showed the photo of the man to her family members and narrated her ordeal.
The girl’s family members registered a complaint at the Vakola Police Station following which a kidnapping and rape case was registered against the man under Sections 4, 8, and 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act, 2012.
The incident came to light amid widespread protests over the rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor in Kolkata’s RG Kar medical college on August 9 and the sexual assault of two four-year-old girls at a kindergarten school in Maharashtra’s Badlapur on a few days ago.
Meanwhile, Cabinet Minister and Guardian Minister of Mumbai Suburban District, Mangal Prabhat Lodha, has issued important instructions to the District Collector of Mumbai Suburban regarding the safety of women and children. In a letter, he emphasised the need for all necessary measures to be taken for the safety of women and female students in various schools and colleges in the Mumbai Suburban area to prevent crimes against women and children.
Lodha stated that from September 1, self-defence training will be provided to young women in all Industrial Training Institutes across the state and in schools/colleges in the Mumbai Suburban area.
