LSG vs MI, IPL 2025: Mitchell Marsh creates history, sets unique IPL record with powerplay masterclass

NEW DELHI: Lucknow Super Giants opener Mitchell Marsh etched his name into the IPL record books on Friday, becoming the first batter in the tournament’s history to face 30 balls within the six-over powerplay.
Marsh achieved the feat during his blistering knock against Mumbai Indians at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.

Marsh’s aggressive yet composed start powered LSG to 69 without loss in the powerplay overs, laying a strong foundation. He also became only the second batter from the franchise to score a half-century inside the powerplay, following Kyle Mayers’ twin efforts in the 2023 season.

Continuing his red-hot form, Marsh notched up his third fifty of the 2025 season with a fluent 60 off 31 balls, featuring nine fours and two sixes. His scores in the tournament now read: 72 (36), 52 (31), 0 (1) and 60 (31), underscoring his consistency at the top.

Marsh’s innings came to an end in the seventh over when mystery spinner Vignesh Puthur struck. Attempting to clip a tossed-up delivery, Marsh got a leading edge that looped back to Puthur, who completed a sharp catch in his follow-through.
