Lord’s cricket ground faces a significant revenue drop of nearly £4million (approx Rs 45 crore) for the upcoming ICC World Test Championship final due to India’s non-qualification. The figure has been cited by The Times in the UK.
The five-day Test match in June will feature Australia against South Africa. India’s absence has reduced the expected financial gains for Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), highlighting Indian cricket’s monetary influence globally.

India held a top-two position in the ICC World Test Championship table for most of the previous year. They dropped to third place after losing to New Zealand at home and suffering a 3-1 defeat to Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series in late 2024 and early 2025.
Lord’s initially set premium ticket prices, expecting high demand from Indian cricket fans. After India’s elimination, MCC reduced ticket prices to ensure better stadium attendance rather than risk empty seats at higher prices.
MCC received criticism last year during England’s Test series against Sri Lanka when only 9,000 spectators attended the fourth day. They promised to review ticket pricing afterward.
The World Test Championship final tickets now range between £40 and £90, approximately £50 less than original prices. This price reduction accounts for the revenue loss.
MCC has refunded the price difference to members who purchased tickets before the reduction. The first public ticket release saw strong sales for the initial four days. Additional tickets will be available this month, with hospitality packages proving popular for the first three weekdays.
Lord’s has a busy schedule ahead. A Test match between England and India has been sold out for the first four days. A South Africa ODI is also sold out, and a women’s ODI against India in July has attracted substantial interest.
The venue will also host the Hundred final and a men’s mixed disability match against India in June.
