'Literally what we were placing order for': Cockroach crawls over paneer rolls at Mumbai Theobroma; video goes viral

NEW DELHI: A customer’s visit to the Theobroma’s Runwal Greens outlet in Mulund West in Mumbai, turned into a nightmare after he spotted a cockroach crawling over trays of paneer rolls. The incident, captured on video and shared on Reddit, quickly went viral, triggering a flood of similar food hygiene complaints from other users.“This is what we saw in Theobroma: Runwal Greens, Mulund West, Mumbai,” the Reddit user wrote while posting the video.Describing the moment, the user added, “I cannot believe that this is the condition of Theobroma. My friend and I visited today in the evening, and this is literally what we were going to place an order for. Yes, we did inform the staff, and they did take the whole tray out in front of us, but we don’t know what happened after we left. Be careful, guys.”The post quickly gained traction, with numerous users flooding the comments section.

One Reddit user sarcastically remarked, “That’s the Food inspector doing Quality checks,” while another quipped, “Poetic. This is where the lines between satire and reality blur. The cockroach very well represents a bribe seeking food inspector.”While many users shared their own unsettling experiences and raised concerns about food safety and hygiene at popular eateries. One user wrote, “I went to a fine dining restaurant for dinner, and there were red ants all over the chair. I immediately left the place. People in this country don’t take hygiene seriously.”Another recalled an incident from a Theobroma outlet in South Delhi saying: “Ordered two brownies from there and one of them had a very little piece of plastic inside of it. Naturally, as it was covered in the microwaved melted chocolate, it only became noticeable after going in my mouth.”“Even showed it to the only two staff members present at that time, they were like “oh” and immediately threw it in the dustbin and went on to bill me for the brownies anyway. I was at a very low point at that time, so I didn’t put up a fight, paid for the bill and left the place,” he added.A third user claimed, “I once ordered brownies from their shop and I found small metal wires while chewing… Could have been fatal if I would have swallowed it without chewing.”Some users also questioned the accountability of big brands and their franchising practices. “I also wonder what brands even do. They just franchise the stores and can’t really keep a check on what the owner does. It’s the same with dark stores or delivery apps. Why do these owners and employees have no sense of responsibility?” one commenter asked.Theobroma has not yet issued any public statement addressing the incident or the hygiene concerns raised by customers.
