Light rain in Himachal triggers flash flood alert, Met office issues warning | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Light rain was recorded in parts of Himachal Pradesh on Sunday, prompting the regional Met office to issue a low-to-moderate flash flood alert for Shimla, Kangra, and Chamba districts over the next 24 hours. A ‘yellow’ alert for heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning has also announced for isolated areas on July 10-11.
The Met office has warned of potential damage to plantations, horticulture, and standing crops.Vulnerable structures may experience partial damage, while minor damage to kutcha houses and huts due to strong winds and rain is expected. Traffic disruptions and waterlogging in low-lying areas are also anticipated.
In the 24 hours ending at 5 pm on Sunday, Rampur recorded 33 mm of rainfall. Other places saw rainfall with Sarahan getting 11 mm, Shimla 9 mm, Wangtoo and Jubbarhatti 8 mm each, and Chauri and Bajaura 5 mm each.
Visibility was severely reduced in some areas near Shimla, causing difficulties for drivers on the Shimla-Kalka Highway.
According to the state’s emergency operation centre, 41 roads have been closed following torrential rain. This includes 27 roads in Mandi, seven in Shimla, four in Sirmaur, two in Kullu, and one in Kangra district. Additionally, 71 water supply schemes have been affected.
Kukumseri in Lahaul and Spiti registered the lowest temperature at 10.1 degrees Celsius, while Bilaspur was the hottest at 36.6 degrees Celsius.
