Laxman Utekar apologises to Shirke descendants after they threaten to file Rs 100 crore defamation lawsuit against 'Chhaava'

Vicky Kaushal’s ‘Chhaava’ is just roaring at the box office and how! The film has crossed Rs 300 crore and getting love from all over the country. Even PM Narendra Modi has praised the movie. However, it has sparked a new controversy. The movie shows how Ganoji and Kanhoji Shirke betrayed Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj and thus, he was caught be Auragzeb. But the descendants of the Shirke family have raised an objection towards the film, thus, claiming that this portrayal of their ancestors is unfair and misleading. They have threatened to file a Rs 100 crore defamation lawsuit against the movie.
The 13th descendant of Ganoji and Kanhoji Shirke, Laxmikant Raje Shirke has filed this lawsuit claiming that the facts have been distorted and this is a misinterpretation of facts. He criticised the movie and shared that this has caused a lot of damage to the family’s legacy. Thus, he has sent a notice to the director and would be filing a Rs 100 crore defamation case.
Now after this threat, Utekar has apologised to the family now. As per reports, Laxman reached out to Bhushan Shirke, of the descendants to apologise for unintentionally causing hurt to the family. He also clarified that the film did not explicitly mention the last names or the village names of Ganoji and Kanhoji.
Reportedly, the director told Shirke, “We have only mentioned the names of Ganoji and Kanhoji in Chhaava, without referring to their surname. We’ve also made sure to not disclose the village they belonged to. Our intention was not to hurt the sentiments of the Shirke family. I sincerely apologise if Chhaava caused any discomfort.”
