LATAM Airlines Brasil enhances connectivity with a new weekly service from Fortaleza to Santiago, launching November 30, using advanced Airbus A320neo aircraft.
LATAM Airlines Brasil is set to inaugurate a weekly flight service from Fortaleza to Santiago, Chile’s bustling capital, starting November 30. Utilizing the advanced Airbus A320neo aircraft, this new route marks LATAM’s eighth direct connection between Brazil and Santiago. The airline anticipates transporting approximately 14,500 passengers annually on this route, bolstering connectivity and boosting tourism and business travel between the two countries.
LATAM Airlines Brasil, originally known as TAM Linhas Aéreas, operates under the LATAM Airlines Group banner, offering both domestic and international flights from major hubs in Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, and Brasília. According to the National Civil Aviation Agency of Brazil (ANAC), LATAM captured 37.8% of the domestic market and 18.2% of the international market in terms of passenger-kilometers flown between January and December 2023. These figures solidify its position as Brazil’s leading airline in both domestic and international markets.
Before merging with Chile’s LAN Airlines, TAM Linhas Aéreas was the largest airline in Brazil and Latin America. With its headquarters in São Paulo, TAM provided extensive domestic services across Brazil and international flights to Europe, North America, and South America. Shares of TAM were traded on the São Paulo Exchange (BM&F Bovespa) and the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker “TAM.” Prior to the merger, TAM’s shares were transferred to the LATAM Airlines Group, and the airline closed its capital.
In August 2015, it was announced that TAM and LAN would fully rebrand as LATAM, with a unified livery for all aircraft by 2018. The airline exited the Star Alliance and joined Oneworld on March 31, 2014, before leaving Oneworld on May 1, 2020.
The name “TAM” stands for “Transportes Aéreos Marília,” reflecting its origins as a regional aviation company founded in Marília, São Paulo. LATAM Airlines Brasil now flies to 93 destinations, continuing its legacy of connecting people and places across the globe.
This new route between Fortaleza and Santiago is expected to significantly boost tourism and business travel. Enhanced connectivity will facilitate smoother travel experiences for tourists and business professionals alike, fostering economic growth and strengthening cultural and commercial ties between Brazil and Chile.
