A massive landslide in the tribal Bharmour region in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh has blocked the way to the Manimahesh lake, a place of pilgrimage.
The landslide occurred between Donali and Guenala on Wednesday afternoon. According to a local official, no loss of life or property was reported in the incident.
The official said that some pilgrims were on their way to Manimahesh but fortunately, they were not near the impact zone of the landslide.
The Chamba administration has temporarily banned the movement of people on this route following the landslide and put up sign boards informing the same.
The official said that the work was presently underway to clear the way of the landslide debris.
The Chamba administration has announced the official dates for the annual Manimahesh Yatra this year to be from August 26 to September 11. However, pilgrims start visiting Manimahesh at the beginning of the monsoon in July.
Meanwhile, according to the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), 11 roads remained closed throughout the state on Thursday with the highest four each in Mandi and Shimla districts and three in Kangra district.
On Thursday, Himachal recorded deficit rains of 1.2 mm, which was 86% lower than the normal rainfall of 8.8 mm. Since July 1, Himachal has recorded total rainfall of 81.6 mm, which is 7% higher than the normal of 76.6 mm.
Keylong was the coldest place in Himachal on Thursday with the lowest minimum temperature of 11.7 degrees Celsius.
