Filmmaker Kiran Rao recently opened up about her marriage to Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan, revealing that her parents were initially shocked by her decision. In a conversation with ANI, Kiran shared that her family had high expectations for her and feared that she would be overshadowed by Aamir’s immense stardom.”It was a shocker for them. They were taken aback. In their eyes, I had a lot of promise. I was someone who wanted to do a lot of things, and they were worried that I might be overshadowed by Aamir’s larger-than-life persona,” Kiran admitted.Despite their concerns, Kiran found comfort in Aamir’s unwavering support for her individuality. “Aamir never expected me to be a certain way. He has always been happy for me to be myself, and that’s one of the greatest things about him,” she shared. Even after their separation in 2021, she maintains that they will always support each other. “Aamir and I will always be there for each other,” she added.
Kiran Rao and Aamir Khan got married in 2005 and welcomed their son, Azad Rao Khan, in 2011. After being together for over 15 years, the couple announced their amicable separation in July 2021. However, they have remained close and continue to co-parent their son while collaborating on creative projects.
Meanwhile, Aamir Khan recently spoke about his relationships with both his ex-wives, Reena Dutta and Kiran Rao. Reflecting on his journey, he acknowledged the significance of both relationships in his life. “Reena and I were together for 16 years, and it was a runaway marriage. The most important relationships that I had in my life were with these wonderful people. Both Reena and Kiran are amazing. These two women are the ones I have spent my life with, and they have given me a lot,” Aamir shared.
