Kartik Aaryan explained the mathematics involved in a film’s box office numbers.

Kartik Aaryan is gearing up for the release of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. The previous film in the franchise was among the few films that did well at the box office. After that, the horror comedy genre peaked at the box office with Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao’s Stree 2 this year. Now, all eyes are on Kartik and his Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. However, the actor feels no pressure.
Speaking to the Indian Express, Kartik said, “There is mathematics behind it. Like what is the team, what was their last film, what is their next, who is the audience coming to see? Is it the biggest date of the year, are there many holidays in the run? There are several calculations, which you as well as the industry is looking at. When these things are well calculated, you don’t take the pressure of it.”
Kartik mentioned how his time in Bollywood is different from some of his peers. He said, “In my journey, I’ve never had anything handed to me. I had to make the plate myself; no one came to me with a platter. No one got me a Rs 500 cr director when I started, I worked with all debut directors. So, I haven’t been that lucky, but I know from where my margin can rise. If I am still giving that number, I am content with that.”
“I am not comparing; I am not complaining. I am in a good space because nobody knew me when I came to the city and now, I am recognized in every corner of the country. That’s something to be grateful about,” he added.
The first instalment of Bhool Bhulaiyaa was a remake of the 1993 Malayalam film Manichitrathazhu. Akshay Kumar played Dr. Aditya Shrivastava, a psychiatrist, while Vidya Balan portrayed a woman with dissociative identity disorder who believes the ghost of a dancer possesses her. The film became a cult classic, known for its perfect blend of horror and comedy.
Kartik stepped into this legacy with Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, which was released in 2022, alongside Kiara Advani and Tabu. The sequel earned praise for its fresh take, yet fans couldn’t help but compare Kartik’s role to Akshay’s iconic performance.
Now, with Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 slated for release on Diwali 2024, Kartik will once again return to the franchise, alongside Vidya Balan, Madhuri Dixit Nene and Triptii Dimri. The film is set to clash with Rohit Shetty’s Singham Again at the box office, making it one of the most anticipated showdowns of the year.
