Karan Johar reveals he is inspired by the success of Shraddha Kapoor-Rajkummar Rao starrer 'Stree 2': 'Not like the biggest star of the country is in it'

Karan Johar recently expressed feeling ’empowered and inspired’ by the success of Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao starrer ‘Stree 2‘, praising the cast and the producer-director team.
In conversation with Komal Nahta, Karan expressed his happiness over the success of Stree 2, highlighting how the film’s performance at the box office empowered and inspired him. He noted that the film didn’t rely on a massive star cast but thrived due to the conviction of producer Dinesh Vijan and director Amar Kaushik. He praised the entire cast, including Rajkummar Rao, Abhishek Banerjee, Aparshakti Khurrana, and Shraddha Kapoor, but emphasized that the real credit goes to the producer and director for their vision and leadership.

The director further emphasized that today’s film industry isn’t solely about directors or stars, but rather about producers. He highlighted the importance of how a project is created, marketed, and released, including the timing and strategies behind its launch. He believes the success of a film now depends on the studio and producer’s approach.

Stree 2 was released in theatres on August 15 last year. The film is a sequel to the 2018 hit, which centered around a female ghost wronged in her past life, and introduces a new antagonist, Sarkata, a headless villain. In this installment, Sarkata kidnaps women with independent voices. The film is part of Dinesh Vijan’s horror-comedy universe under Maddock Films, which also includes Bhediya and Munjya.
