Kanwaljit Singh defends Amitabh Bachchan after Naseeruddin Shah calls him a businessman: ‘I call Naseer the God of acting but...'

Actor Kanwaljit Singh has recently weighed in on Naseeruddin Shah’s remarks about Amitabh Bachchan. Shah had previously stated that he sees Bachchan more as a businessman than an actor, and the comment has sparked discussions in the industry.
Addressing the statement during an interview with Hindi Rush, Kanwaljit Singh expressed his disagreement with Shah’s opinion. He called Big B a “very fine actor.” While acknowledging Shah’s influence in parallel cinema, Kanwaljit remarked that the actor was fortunate to find his place in that genre. “Naseer was lucky to realise that he wouldn’t be cast in commercial films because that was the time when people were making parallel cinema. If those kinds of films weren’t being made, then what?” he added. He further stated that Naseer is his “jaan,” whom he calls the God of acting.

Over the years, Naseeruddin Shah has been vocal about his views on mainstream cinema and Amitabh Bachchan’s filmography. In a 2010 interview with NewsX, he commented on Bachchan’s widely celebrated film Sholay, stating that Sholay is not a great film but is entertaining.
Amitabh Bachchan’s career saw a major turnaround after a series of box-office failures when he starred in Zanjeer, penned by the legendary duo Salim-Javed. This was followed by critically and commercially successful films like Deewar and Sholay, earning him the title of “Angry Young Man” and cementing his legacy with over 200 films to his credit.
On the other hand, Naseeruddin Shah emerged as a leading figure in India’s parallel cinema movement, debuting with Shyam Benegal’s Nishant and later delivering powerful performances in films like Manthan, Sparsh, Aakrosh, and Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyoon Aata Hai.
On the work front, Amitabh Bachchan was last seen in the blockbuster Kalki 2898 AD and Vettaiyan, while Naseeruddin Shah appeared in Sonu Sood’s 2025 release Fateh.
