Kangana Ranaut on comparing herself with Shah Rukh Khan.

Kangana Ranaut opened up about her comments in which she compared herself with Shah Rukh Khan.

Kangana Ranaut opened up about the viral comment in which she compared herself with Shah Rukh Khan. For the unversed, in a conclave last year, Kangana said she and SRK are the ‘last generation of stars’. In a new podcast, Kangana clarified her comment and said that she was comparing herself with him because of their journey in Bollywood. Kangana said that she and SRK were outsiders and made a mark in the industry.

“I think I said me and Shah Rukh are two outsiders (who have truly made it). Shah Rukh Khan comes from Delhi and who is not from the film industry. He became the top most star. I come from the mountains, his mother as a magistrate, he comes from a family who speaks good English, he comes from a convent and to come from Delhi to Mumbai, it is not much of a difference no? But I come from a village and I am a girl and I came as a teenager so my journey is all the more difficult. Having said that, he also did not have parents so I draw parallels like that, but I think that’s about it,” Kangana said in a podcast with Raj Shamani.

“Now I am referring to as is the fickle nature of the audiences. They don’t watch anything for too long. Jo purane zamaane mein gaane hote the, they would run for several weeks and months. But today, no matter how good the song is, it doesn’t work. People forget in a few days. Films used to celebrate silver jubilee, today, people don’t watch a film for the actor, they watch it for it for the content. Several new faces come, get launched and leave. So maybe in that context I said. In the new generation, I don’t think any actor has reached the ‘star’ level, they are trying,” she added.

Referring to the women in the industry, Kangana said that even actresses have not been able to experience and enjoy the stardom like Sridevi and Madhuri Dixit once did.

For the unversed, at the Times Now Summit 2024 in New Delhi in 2023, Kangana was speaking about her bad luck at the box office when she pointed out that even SRK had back-to-back flops at one point of time. She added, “We are the last generation of stars… OTT doesn’t make stars. We are known faces. By the grace of God, we are very much in demand.”

Kangana will be seen in Emergency, set to release on September 6, 2024.
