John Abraham reveals he felt objectified in movies: 'I felt good about it, but...'

Actor John Abraham, who always makes others jealous with his impressive body transformations and well-maintained abs, has now opened up about feeling objectified for his looks and how he navigated that by focusing on well-written scripts.
The actor, known for his roles in ‘Dostana’ and ‘Pathaan‘, shared that he never felt offended but took it as a compliment. In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter India, John shared, “I did feel objectified. In fact, I was told more often than not that, ‘John, you are probably the only man who can be objectified by women.’ In a strange way, I did not feel bad about it; I felt it was a compliment. I felt good about it, but yeah, we are usually fighting this battle where it’s always about the way you look rather than the way you perform.” He admitted that there is always a need to balance this by choosing the right kind of script.

John highlighted films like ‘Madras Cafe’, ‘Kabul Express’, ‘Taxi No. 9211’, and No Smoking as examples where strong storytelling took centre stage over mere physical appeal.
Discussing his upcoming film The Diplomat, John explained how his focus on meaningful narratives remains a priority. He emphasises the importance of strong writing in films, stating that a well-written script forms the foundation of impactful storytelling. While acknowledging that his physique initially drew significant attention, he highlights the need to balance visual appeal with meaningful content. John admits there remains a large audience that appreciates his physicality, but he equally values viewers who seek depth and strong narratives, aiming to cater to both through his film choices.

The Diplomat is set to hit theatres on March 7.
