NEW DELHI: Indian batting stalwart Rohit Sharma, who announced his retirement from Test cricket on Wednesday, has expressed his disappointment with the current state of cricket commentary and media coverage in India. In an interview with senior journalist Vimal Kumar, Rohit didn’t hold back in calling out how conversations around cricket have shifted in recent years.“Earlier, I used to see that reporting was done on cricket itself, discussions were about the game. But now I see that it’s all about how to get more views, how to make a thousand people read my article. SUBSCRIBE NOW!He was especially critical of TV commentary during matches, pointing out the stark contrast when compared to other countries. “These days, the way commentators speak on TV is just disappointing. When we go to Australia, their commentary is on a whole different level. It’s like night and day. Here, it feels like the goal is just to pick on a player and talk negatively about the player,” he added.

On Wednesday evening, Rohit announced his retirement from Test cricket. The 38-year-old, who made his red-ball debut in 2013, played 67 Test matches and scored 4,301 runs, including 12 centuries.
