PUNE: Saurabh Chaudhary opened India’s and his own medal account in the Peru World Cup with a bronze in the men’s 10m air pistol event in Lima on Tuesday.
A week after winning his first medal after a gap of three years bronze in 10m air pistol mixed in Buenos Aires the former World No. 1 shooter secured his first individual international medal since 2022 on Tuesday, shooting 219.1 to secure third place.
His cousin Varun Tomar was fourth with 198.1 in the eight-man final. China’s Kai Hu (246.4) won gold but missed the world record by 0.1 point. The silver went to Rio Olympics silver medallist Almeida Wu, who shot 241.
Saurabh was in lead till the first five shots in a field that comprised multiple Olympic medallists , including Paris champion Yu Xie of China, Rio gold winner (25m rapid fire) Christian Rietz of Germany and Rio Games silver medallist in 10m air pistol, Almeida Wu of Brazil. However, the Chinese got difficult to chase and Saurabh slipped with six consecutive 9s.
