The signing follows the standard IPL regulations for mid-season replacements, with Owen stepping in to fill the vacant overseas player slot left by his fellow Australian Maxwell in the Punjab Kings squad for the remainder of the tournament.
Maxwell had yet another IPL season to forget for PBKS. He scored 48 runs from six innings with a highest score of 30, producing runs at a strike rate of 97.96.
He had an equally disastrous IPL 2024 where he scored 52 runs from 10 matches at an average of 5.78.
PBKS are fourth on the IPL points table with six wins and three losses in 10 matches. One match, against Kolkata Knight Riders, was washed out.
The Shreyas Iyer-led side’s next outing is today (May 4) against Lucknow Super Giants in Dharamsala. They will then play against Delhi Capitals (May 8), Mumbai Indians (May 11) and Rajasthan Royals (May 16) with ambition of ending their lengthy drought of not reaching the playoffs.
