How automakers strengthen cybersecurity amid rising threats, explains expert

As cyber threats targeting connected vehicles grow, automakers are adopting new security tools to safeguard their systems. Industry experts emphasize the need for a multi-layered approach, integrating real-time monitoring, intrusion detection, and regular software updates.
Experts explained manufacturers are deploying Intrusion Detection and Prevention Systems (IDPS) to monitor internal vehicle networks.
“IDPS is becoming a critical layer of defense, helping automakers detect and mitigate cyber threats before they cause damage,” said Vikash Chaudhary, founder of cybersecurity firm HackersEra.
Automakers are also investing in Vehicle Security Operations Centers (VSOC) to monitor threats in real time across fleets. “A VSOC functions like a cybersecurity nerve center for automakers, providing continuous oversight and threat intelligence,” Chaudhary added.
Regular software updates, delivered through over-the-air (OTA) technology, are another key strategy. Automakers are integrating automated patch management to address vulnerabilities efficiently.
