'He is party president': BJP targets Congress over 'separate' chair for Mallikarjun Kharge at Gujarat event

NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday criticised the Congress party over the seating arrangement for its president Mallikarjun Kharge during a prayer session in Ahmedabad’s Sabarmati Ashram.
Amit Malviya, in-charge of the BJP’s national IT department, shared a video from the Congress event and questioned the decision to place Kharge in a separate chair.
“If a separate chair had to be placed for Kharge ji, why was it not placed in the centre? He is the party president and also an elderly person,” Malviya said in a post.
The video is from a special prayer session organised by the Congress on the eve of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) session. The AICC is holding its 84th National Convention in Ahmedabad on April 8–9. This is the first time in 64 years that the AICC event is being held in Gujarat.
The meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC), the top decision-making body of the party, was held at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Memorial in Ahmedabad on Tuesday. The main AICC session is currently underway at the Sabarmati Riverfront today.
