Recently, one of the person has received a notice from the CGST department citing a DGARM inquiry based on high turnover but low Income Tax paid. The notice demands several documents, including the following:

1. Firm/Company Balance Sheet for FY 2021-22 and 2022-23 =

2. Annual Return GSTR 9 & Statement GSTR 9C

3. Income Tax Returns (ITR) filed for FY 2021-22 and 2022-23

This raises a crucial question:
Does a GST officer truly have the power to demand these documents, particularly those related to Income Tax”
