Hotel d’inghilterra roma – starhotels collezione

Hotel d’Inghilterra Roma reopens Sept 27 after a stylish revamp, blending its storied past with luxury, steps from Spanish Steps and Via Condotti.

Since the 19th century, Hotel d’Inghilterra Roma – Starhotels Collezione has been a cherished haven for international guests and Roman nobility, thanks to its superb location just steps away from the iconic Spanish Steps and the glamorous Via Condotti, and its inherent elegance.

Following an extensive restyling that celebrates its legendary history, the hotel will reopen its doors on September 27th. Originally dating back to the mid-16th century as the noble residence for Palazzo Torlonia’s guests across the street, Hotel d’Inghilterra has recently completed a significant conservative renovation starting in 2023. Inspired by the Grand Tour era when discerning travelers sought prestigious accommodations, the project included restoring the exteriors and the historically protected façade by Soprintendenza, as well as upgrading all guestrooms and suites on the upper floors.

The latest phase focused on remodeling communal areas and guestrooms on the first three floors, reducing the room count from 84 to 80 to enhance luxurious interiors and preserve the hotel’s extraordinary heritage. Guided by Elisabetta Fabri, President and CEO of Starhotels, the renovation was meticulously curated by their design team with deep respect for historical nuances and the Grand Tour aesthetic. The restoration meticulously preserved historical elements, including original reception desks and furnishings, while Italian master craftsmen, as part of the “La Grande Bellezza – The Dream Factory” initiative, contributed to infuse the hotel with renewed splendor and authentic Made in Italy design.

“It has been a privilege to oversee the restoration of this Roman jewel, the Hotel d’Inghilterra. Preserving its legacy was paramount, just as it was for the Helvetia & Bristol in Florence.” comments Elisabetta Fabri “Here in Rome, we had the unique opportunity to translate the timeless elegance experienced by Grand Tour travellers into a contemporary haven for today’s discerning guest. The result is a space that celebrates its heritage while offering a warm and welcoming atmosphere, a true second home for those seeking beauty, well-being, and a touch of Italian magic.”

Restored to its grandeur with an infusion of intimate charm, Hotel d’Inghilterra reimagines its common spaces with a nod to its classic Palazzo Romano roots. Upon entering, guests are greeted by the preserved architectural splendor of historical layouts in the reception area. A new second reception for VIP guests, adjacent to a dedicated concierge desk, features leafy wallpaper evoking Roman gardens, while the iconic black floor with white inserts remains a testament to the property’s storied past.

An intimate seating area, styled in mustard yellow and deeper tones reminiscent of a private residence, reintroduces historical elements like plaster palm trees. Walls adorned with Dedar wallpapers and Rubelli’s custom fabrics reflect the hotel’s rich heritage. The Library features antique pieces alongside classic chester sofas, illuminated by restored chandeliers and antique lamps from Bronzetto, complemented by contemporary designs by Jacques Garcia for Zonca.

New offerings include the expanded Cafè Romano, welcoming both guests and locals with additional indoor seating and a new outdoor area on Via Borgognona. The bar retains its original counter and restored wall paneling, enhanced with antique mirrors in gilded frames, preserving its timeless allure. A highlight is the new Terrazza Romana, an exclusive rooftop cocktail bar offering breathtaking views of Rome, perfect for private events and external guests.

Adding to the hotel’s allure is an intimate Spa, providing a sanctuary for relaxation and rejuvenation amidst the city’s hustle. Each renovated suite and room reflects its own personality and historical references, adorned with artisanal pieces balancing antiquity and modernity. Custom Rubelli fabrics grace the first and third floors, paying homage to historical color gradings with motifs symbolizing hospitality.

Bathrooms feature Carrara marble and imperial Bardiglio floors, echoing past grandeur. The second floor preserves its original design with William Morris wallpapers reimagined in a contemporary context. Local craftsmen have meticulously restored patinated door knobs, bathroom fittings by Poignee, and ceiling cornices by Stucchi Italia, ensuring historical authenticity. Fersini Restauro has carefully preserved antique furnishings, while Lumis’ handcrafted lamps and the hotel’s collection of antique pieces adorn suites and rooms, blending historical charm with contemporary luxury.

From the elegant Penthouse Suite with its expansive terrace to the Balcony Suites on the fifth floor, where black and white geometric patterns create a harmonious ambiance, Hotel d’Inghilterra blends timeless elegance with modern comfort, inviting guests to experience Rome in refined style.

General Manager Massimo Colliconcludes: “The Hotel d’Inghilterra, with its heritage, splendour and wonderful location in the heart of Rome, represents a unique proposition for the travellers who are looking for a luxury but still authentic stay in the Città Eterna. Our charm, together with the service we are famous about, the sense of Italian hospitality we have always represented over the centuries, have already made us stand out. Thanks to this conservative refurbishment, this historical Palace will be again the home away from home for the 21st century modern traveller”.

The Hotel d’Inghilterra will reopen on September 27th.
