Four teenage boys drown in river after Holi celebrations in Thane

NEW DELHI: A Holi celebration ended in tragedy as four teenage boys drowned in the Ulhas river in Thane’s Badlapur area on Friday afternoon after venturing into the water.
The victims, all Class X students aged between 15 and 16, were residents of Poddar Gruh Complex in Chamtoli. According to police, the boys were swept away when the river’s water level rose suddenly, leaving them unable to escape.
The deceased have been identified as Aryan Medar (15), Om Singh Tomar (15), Siddharth Singh (16), and Aryan Singh (16). Authorities confirmed that their bodies have been recovered and sent to Badlapur Rural Hospital for post-mortem.
“A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances of the incident,” a police official said.
Locals and rescue teams rushed to the spot, but the swift current made immediate recovery difficult. The tragedy has sparked concerns over water safety measures during festive celebrations, with officials urging people to remain cautious near rivers and water bodies.
