Ex-wife's murder: Gujarat HC acquits man, cites gaps in prosecution case

AHMEDABAD: A murder that had gripped the city with its gruesome details has ended in acquittal. Gujarat HC overturned a trial court conviction of Nasim Mansuri, who has spent nearly 10 years in jail, over the charge of killing his ex-wife. The case dates back to 2007 when victim Jayshri, a TV actress, was found with her head floating in a lake, and her body near Vatva canal.
HC overturned Mansuri’s conviction citing gaps in prosecution’s case. It said the circumstantial evidence was not strong enough to prove guilt beyond reasonable doubt. Jayshri & Mansuri married in ’92.
As per prosecution’s case, she divorced him years later & remarried. Enraged, Mansuri was accused of killing her. The trial court gave life sentence to Mansuri. He has since served over nine years in jail. tnn
