Engineer Rashid was granted interim bail for the Jammu and Kashmir election campaign last month.
Awami Ittehad Party chief and Baramulla MP Sheikh Abdul Rashid alias Engineer Rashid surrendered to the Tihar Jail in the national capital on Monday after the tenure of his interim bail ended today.

Engineer Rashid’s interim bail
He was granted interim bail by the court on September 10 to campaign for the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Elections 2024, which was extended till October 28 on grounds of his father’s ill health. The NIA had not opposed the plea after verifying the documents. He was earlier granted interim bail till October 2.
He was lodged in the Tihar Jail in a terror funding case registered by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
Rashid has been behind bars in Tihar jail since 2019 after the NIA arrested him under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in the 2017 terror funding case.
Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Elections were held in three phases on September 18, 25, and October 1. The results were announced on October 8 in which the National Conference-Congress alliance secured a majority with 48 seats.
